By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on March 5, 2011

Drivers who operate independent and illegal car services in Seattle and throughout Washington State could have a tougher time conducting business if lawmakers pass a bill currently under consideration in the state Senate. Senate Bill 5502 targets a persistent problem in Seattle with unlicensed, uninsured and unregulated drivers who pick up passengers in shiny, late-model Lincoln Town Cars. These illegal drivers siphon business from companies that operate legitimate taxi and limousine services and endanger passengers by not following state regulations.

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on March 3, 2011

The landaulet-style 1965 Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman limo commissioned by the Vatican for Pope Paul VI, also known as the first Popemobile, will make a rare North American appearance soon at the Amelia Island Vintage Car Show on March 11, 2011. The Popemobile is on loan from the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany, and it is seldom displayed in Europe, making this appearance quite unusual. This limo has been housed at the museum since it was decommissioned in 1985 after the latest Popemobile was built.

Lincoln Introduces New MKT Model to Entice Limousine Services

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on March 1, 2011

Lincoln, Ford’s luxury branch of cars, limousines and SUVs, has rolled out a new crossover model it feels is perfect for limousine services here in the U.S. and around the world. The new Lincoln MKT crossover is being marketed as a possible replacement for the popular Lincoln Town Car models that have been mainstays of limo services in San Francisco and throughout the country. Since it has just become available, it’s too early to tell whether or not limo services will vote for the MKT with their checkbooks. However, insiders say that the MKT could fill a niche and complement, rather than replace, the Town Cars found in most luxury ground transportation fleets.

West Hollywood Considering Restrictions on Oversized Limousines

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on February 14, 2011

West Hollywood is exploring ways to ban large, oversized limousines from operating on city streets. City officials say the ban would protect the environment, ease parking, facilitate traffic flow and remove a potential obstacle to emergency vehicles responding to a call. The West Hollywood City Council approved the formation of a search committee that would draft measures to restrict huge custom limousines made with fabricated bodies grafted to the cab of a long-haul tractor or truck tractor. A local limousine service owns and rents such a limo called the Colossus that includes all the normal features of a limousine plus a disco dance floor and an external television that can be used for advertising.

Car and Limo Rentals Becoming Big Business in Beijing

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on February 10, 2011

Hiring a car to take people from one place to another in Beijing is becoming a very big business as traffic restrictions make it increasingly difficult for residents to own and drive cars. City officials have adopted these restrictions as part of a concerted effort to reduce the city’s serious traffic problems. The number of privately owned cars on Beijing’s streets has more than doubled in the last five years, creating nightmarish traffic jams and horrible air pollution problems. Taking drastic measures, Beijing officials have issued a month-long moratorium on buying cars, and they plan to issue license plates through a lottery system after the ban has expired.

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on February 8, 2011

A report out of Kentucky provides the kind of news we all could use more of and more often. An elderly resident of Magnolia Village Care and Rehabilitation Center in Bowling Green had a wish to ride in a limo, receive a full body treatment at a day spa, go out for lunch, do some shopping and ride back to her home in the assisted living facility. Some employees at SunBridge Healthcare, a 60-bed nursing center that cares for adults with Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders, granted 85-year-old Gladys Revels’ wish recently and made her day.

Custom Limousine Earns World Record as Heaviest Limo

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on February 4, 2011

Guinness has certified a custom limo weighing 22.7 tons and measuring 70 feet long and 13 feet high as the world’s heaviest limousine. The Midnight Rider is classified and licensed as a limousine by the state of California and features five TVs, a full bar and three lounges. Don’t look for us to add this megalimo to our fleet of San Francisco limousines in the near future. A Southern California couple owns it and rents it out for the princely sum of $1,050 per hour. That price may sound steep, and it is, but the Midnight Rider comes with a crew of five, including two chauffeurs, a bartender, a hostess and an operations specialist.
