RSSNursing Home Grants Resident’s Wish: Ride in a Limousine
A report out of Kentucky provides the kind of news we all could use more of and more often. An elderly resident of Magnolia Village Care and Rehabilitation Center in Bowling Green had a wish to ride in a limo, receive a full body treatment at a day spa, go out for lunch, do some shopping and ride back to her home in the assisted living facility. Some employees at SunBridge Healthcare, a 60-bed nursing center that cares for adults with Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders, granted 85-year-old Gladys Revels’ wish recently and made her day.
Gladys received her wish through a program the assisted living center offers residents called “Wish Upon a Twilight Star.” This wonderful program is now in its third year and is possible because of a partnership between Magnolia Village and the Twilight Wish Foundation, a nonprofit group that grants wishes to the elderly. Even though she knew about her wish being granted well ahead of time, Ms. Revels was reportedly a bit overwhelmed.
“It hasn’t soaked into my brain yet,” she said. “I really do appreciate it. It’s exciting that they chose me to do that.”
After being escorted into her limo, Gladys took the scenic route on her way to a local spa where she wore a plush white robe and got an Aveda body stress relieving treatment, pedicure, a haircut and style and a Euro Express Facial. After being pampered and primped, she hopped back into her limo to meet her daughter-in-law and indulge her love of Italian food for lunch at a local mall. After pizza and a salad, Gladys strolled the mall and did some shopping before getting back into her limousine for the ride home.
