Lincoln Introduces New MKT Model to Entice Limousine Services

Lincoln, Ford’s luxury branch of cars, limousines and SUVs, has rolled out a new crossover model it feels is perfect for limousine services here in the U.S. and around the world. The new Lincoln MKT crossover is being marketed as a possible replacement for the popular Lincoln Town Car models that have been mainstays of limo services in San Francisco and throughout the country. Since it has just become available, it’s too early to tell whether or not limo services will vote for the MKT with their checkbooks. However, insiders say that the MKT could fill a niche and complement, rather than replace, the Town Cars found in most luxury ground transportation fleets.

One thing the MKT doesn’t have that limo service owners like is rear-wheel drive. Rear-wheel drive luxury vehicles have been the standard in the industry for decades, and limo operators know they can count on rear-wheel drive for performance, toughness and reliability. Each of these factors is no small consideration when your livelihood depends on keeping your vehicles on the road and generating revenue as often as possible.

The MKT as a limousine concept was unveiled at the recent 2011 International LCT (limousine, charter and tour) Show in Las Vegas. Part of Ford’s marketing strategy involves calling the MKT a Town Car, hoping for carryover brand recognition. In a statement at the show, a Ford spokesman said, “The new MKT Town Car will be the best available in the livery industry, working off a solid base as the perfect way to achieve the versatility needed for executive transportation or a night out on the town.”

Ford claims the MKT’s higher riding profile will be a hit with limousine renters such as wedding limo guests who want easier entry and exit from the vehicle. The rear seat has moved back by an inch and a half for additional legroom. There is also a switch on the rear passenger side door that allows a rear seat passenger to control the front passenger seat, providing even more legroom if necessary. The three-person rear seat also reclines for an additional level of comfort.
