These songs also form part of a rich tradition of music sung throughout the numerous regions of Africa, so “the blues” as we know them today are truly a fascinating result of sonic evolution. Today, these songs of loss, love, and despair have won the hearts of people from throughout the globe, and this is evidenced not only by the numerous bands dedicated simply to performing this type of music but also by the numerous festivals held with the blues at their core.
