Outside Lands: Music and So Much More
As one of the largest music festivals in the country, Outside Lands considers itself to be one of the most exciting and expansive events in the festival landscape. Even calling in a music festival is to limit the wide variety of events to one thing when, in fact, Outside Lands includes art exhibitions, public lectures, stand up comedy, and so much more.
While it only runs for three days (from the 10th of August until the 12th), Outside Lands packs every spare moment with so much that it will feel as though you’ve experienced enough for an entire summer.
This year, Outside Lands is hosting a number of popular figures from the worlds of science, politics, and environmental preservation to speak. The series is called D.A.V.E, which stands for Discussions About Virtually Everything, and will feature speakers such as:
- California’s Lt. Governor, Gavin Newsom
- Mickey Hart, the drummer for the Grateful Dead
- The Global Climate Action Summit
- Bill Nye (the Science Guy himself!)
- Josh Clark, the host of Stuff You Should Know
After the scintillating discussions, you might find yourself thirsty, so it will be a great time to head over to Ye Ole Beer Lands, which is easily spotted by the enormous bottle of beer at its entrance with the slogan, “Ye Ole Beer Lands.” For you hopheads, Ye Ole Beer Lands is a place where you can find many of your favorite brews all in one convenient place. 30 breweries, even more taps, from San Francisco, Fort Bragg, Anderson Valley, Oakland, and Sonoma.
Specific breweries Outside Lands include:
- Holy Craft
- Laughing Monk
- Seven Stills
- Anderson Valley
- North Coast
- Strongbow Hard Ciders
But of course, the main event is the music. And what a lineup of performs there will be this year. Even a small sampling of the acts on hand at the 2018 Outside Lands will cause any lover of contemporary music to shiver in delight:
- Bon Iver
- Florence + the Machine
- Amen Dunes
- Portugal. The Man
- Janet Jackson
- Mac Demarco
- Father John Misty
- James Blake
Seeing everything is impossible, but you can try your best (many do). Stay safe, stay hydrated, and have the best time ever.
