May Festivities in San Francisco
As many natives already know, May in San Francisco was practically made for outdoor activities and boozy festivals. The combination of the nearly perfect weather with two annual beer and wine festivals and city-wide Mardi Gras and Cinco de Mayo celebrations make The Bay one sweet place to be in the heart of Springtime.
Union Street Spring Celebration and Easter Parade
Called “the biggest little parade in San Francisco” with an average attendance of over 30,000 people, the annual Union Street Spring Celebration and Easter Parade are back for the season on March 27th, 2016. As its name suggests, the parade event runs down Union Street between Gough and Fillmore. This year’s Spring Celebration will run from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the parade beginning at the Gough end of its route at 2:00 p.m.
35th Annual Santa Cruz Clam Chowder Cook-Off
Certainly you’ve heard of chili cook-offs! Well, what about clam chowder? Santa Cruz is bringing the East coast to the West this February, and it gets even better: it’s for a good cause!
San Francisco Beer Week
It’s that time of year again! No, we don’t mean Valentine’s Day, nor are we referring to Superbowl Sunday. Rather, we’re thinking about San Francisco Beer Week. Hops enthusiasts and lager lovers alike travel from near and far to partake in these delicious craft drinks. From January 22nd through January 23rd, 2016, this celebration will be the talk of the Bay.
The Chinese New Year in San Francisco
With the largest Chinese neighborhood in the United States, it’s no wonder that there is no better place to be (except for maybe, China) than San Francisco to celebrate the Chinese New Year. We already blogged about several holiday activities you don’t want to miss this year in San Fran, but the beauty of the Chinese New Year is that it brightens up those pesky months after the Holiday season where the chilly weather lingers and everything gets kind of gray and mushy. The month-long celebration sprinkles events from the end of January to late February, to keep you in good spirits through the dreary after-Holiday months. San Francisco’s Now Panhandle Festival 2015
Twice a year, the neighborhoods around San Francisco’s Panhandle host the Now Festival, a series of free community events from October 28th until November 3rd. The neighborhood-wide projects have included things like acoustic jam sessions, free yoga workshops, book talks, silent discos, cookie swaps, and much more.
Premier Annual San Francisco International South Asian Film Festival
Lovers of cultural events, South Asia, and especially cinema will flock to San Francisco from October 22nd to the 25th to celebrate the moviemaking brilliance found in southern Asia. Organized by South Asia’s longest-serving media and arts organization, 3rd i Films, this event is dedicated to the motion pictures produced by artists, auteurs, and entertainers located or depicting life in Southern Asia.
45th Annual Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival
‘Tis the season for pumpkin spice lattes, fall harvest soups, autumn décor, and, if you live in the greater Bay Area, you can’t forget the Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival. This year, on Saturday, October 17th, and Sunday, October 18th, San Francisco and the surrounding area will celebrate this festival’s 45th year! The event is a tradition not to be missed.
Architecture and the City
It’s September again. Summer has wound down, and the kids are back in school. September, however, also brings San Francisco’s month-long Architecture and the City event. The 2015 festival theme is Play: Design in Action, and the greater Bay Area has been looking forward to this celebration for an entire year.
Litquake
San Francisco is nationally renowned for its literary community. Amy Tan, Michael Chabon, Dave Eggers, and Lemony Snicket are only a few of the dozens of exceptional authors whose roots are in the Bay Area. Moreover, this Northern California literary scene offers diversity in genre and is known for its interdisciplinary nature. San Francisco’s writerly and readerly landscape is truly unique.
