Architecture and the City
It’s September again. Summer has wound down, and the kids are back in school. September, however, also brings San Francisco’s month-long Architecture and the City event. The 2015 festival theme is Play: Design in Action, and the greater Bay Area has been looking forward to this celebration for an entire year.
Featured events are being showcased throughout the month. For example, on Sunday September 27th in Hillsborough, the public is invited to partake in a tour of Aidlin Darling Design’s House of Earth and Sky. Details about cost and other house tours are available via the festival website.
This celebration of design includes Behind The Scenes Tours such as:
- Double Play: Playground Design Through Play at the San Francisco Zoo
- Transbay Transit Center: The Grand Central Station of the West
- An Insider’s Tour of the Giants’ Garden: A Tomato Grows In Centerfield
- …and other tours rooted in the rich history of our greater Bay Area.
In addition to the Behind The Scenes Tours, California residents and visitors alike enjoy the architecture showcased during the City Walking Tours. The #SFOPENITY Tour, for example, will take place on September 29th at 4pm starting and ending at Mission Dolores Point. This unique tour will be based on the concept of tagging and include a scavenger hunt.
If tours aren’t quite your style, you might consider an Exhibition. Perspectivas 2015: "Playing with Urban Fabric," for example, is open for viewing from September 18th through the 30th at Perkins + Will. Family events, film showings, and lectures are among the other refreshing programs weaved into the 2015 Play: Design in Action itinerary. Whether you are looking forward to the Tile Makes The Room Launch Party or Story Hour: Tactical Urbanism, Architecture and the City has become a Northern California Tradition.
