Premier Annual San Francisco International South Asian Film Festival

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on October 22, 2015

Lovers of cultural events, South Asia, and especially cinema will flock to San Francisco from October 22nd to the 25th to celebrate the moviemaking brilliance found in southern Asia. Organized by South Asia’s longest-serving media and arts organization, 3rd i Films, this event is dedicated to the motion pictures produced by artists, auteurs, and entertainers located or depicting life in Southern Asia.

Past festivals have been home to the premiers of some of the decade’s most important films, such as Slumdog Millionaire, Lackistan, and Four Lions, and the lineup of films for this year is equally impressive. The following films are just several of the tremendous lineup:

  • Jai Ho: A documentary on of India’s most influential and important film musicians, A.R. Rahman, Jai Ho will conclude with a Q&A conducted over Skype with the filmmaker.
  • Haider (Hamlet): A mixture of Bollywood and independent cinema, this updated interpretation of Shakespeare’s immortal and devastating play features a script by Basharat Peer and performances from Tabu (Life of Pi) and Irrfan Khan (The Lunchbox) among others.
  • Tigers: The David-and-Goliath story of a salesman from Pakistan who goes against a massive baby-formula corporation when he discovers that the corporation’s products are highly dangerous to children. This film also features a Q&A with the individuals on whom this real-life film is based.
  • PK: Bollywood to the core, this film is a participant in the renowned “Bollywood at the Castro” event. A subversive interstellar comedy in 3D, PK is sure to be a crowd favorite during the festival.

More than Movies

Beyond the films, the Premier Annual San Francisco International South Asian Film Festival includes Q&A sessions with filmmakers, writers, actors, and other exciting individuals as well as the Castro Reception, which allows festival goers the chance to mingle with filmmakers and other distinguished guests before attending a screening of PK.

Planning Your Festival Adventure

The SFISAFF takes over both the New People Cinema and the Castro Theatre during the four-day long festival, which means that navigating between the venues becomes an essential concern for those looking to be properly doused in film. While planning out your movie adventure, choose the superior service of NLS. We promise a sophisticated and punctual trip to and from the film festival, and even out for drinks after the movies if you desire.
