35th Annual Santa Cruz Clam Chowder Cook-Off
Certainly you’ve heard of chili cook-offs! Well, what about clam chowder? Santa Cruz is bringing the East coast to the West this February, and it gets even better: it’s for a good cause!
On Saturday, February 20th at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, the Bay Area will celebrate the 35th Annual Santa Cruz Clam Chowder Cook-Off! The event begins at 10am, and awards will be announced at 4pm in the amphitheater. Awards will include airline tickets, cash prizes, and plaques. The festival is free to attend, and tasting kits are only $10! Proceeds will go to Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation.
Among the awards will be the Amateur and Professional Boston-style Clam Chowder and the Amateur and Professional Manhattan-style Clam Chowder categories. Are you familiar with the different types of chowder? Manhattan-style features a tomato-based broth. Many claim its roots are tied to Portuguese immigration to New York City. Boston clam chowder, which is often referred to as New-England-style clam chowder, is cream based, and it tends to features potatoes in addition to clams. Which do you prefer? It seems that soup lovers tend to have a preference. In fact, we’ve witnessed arguments over which is the true version!
If you aren’t sure what type of chowder you prefer, or if you have a favorite style and can’t wait to taste the best in the West, the annual Santa Cruz Clam Chowder Cook-Off is the event for you. Moreover, we won’t judge you. No matter your preferences, as the Bay Area’s preferred luxury transportation company, we’d be honored to drive you to the event.
A day at the beach pairs well with a ride in one of our handsome-bodied, wood-trimmed antique cars. On the other hand, you can pair this East coast tradition with a Bay-Area icon: a motorized trolley car! Of course, here at NLS Limo, we offer the best in late-model limousines, as well. Wet bars, hot tubs, moonroofs, and track lighting are among the gorgeous amenities. We can accommodate large groups, too, in our immaculately clean party vans and charter buses. Whether you have questions about your day trip or you’re ready to make your cook-off day transportation reservations, contact Nationwide Limousine Service at 800-339-8936.
