Things To Do | San Francisco Travel Blog - Part 27
41st Annual Carnavale and Grand Parade
With the summer so clearly within our sights, we here in the Bay Area are getting ready for one of the most exciting signs of warm weather and vivacity: Carnavale! While many cities throughout the world celebrate Carnavale in their own way (with special shout-outs going to Venice and Rio de Janeiro, of course), San Francisco deserves special recognition for its own take on the worldwide festivities.
A Whole Lot-a Laughs: Clusterfest Returns to San Francisco
If you’re invested in comedy, and if you live anywhere near San Francisco, then you will already be aware of Clusterfest. For those who find themselves standing just out of the comedic newsfeed, perhaps it doesn’t have quite the same familiar ring to it, which is understandable because Clusterfest has only been around for three years. But, my goodness, what a marvelous three years.
Be a Local at the Bay Area’s Sunset Mercantile
Spring festivals in the Bay Area are fast approaching (some have already happened!) and we don’t want you to miss out one the chance to participate in one of these fantastic events, so we’re going to be devoting some more time today to one of our favorites.
Cesar Chavez Parade & Celebration in the Mission District
As anyone who is involved with labor or civil rights movements will tell you, Cesar Chavez is one of the most important figures within these two important and intertwined spheres. A man who spent the majority of his life struggling within the state of California to better the lives of both farmers and migrant workers, Cesar Chavez receives the honors he is due every year at the Mission District’s annual Cesar Chavez Holiday Parade & Celebration.
NLS Selects: Three Bars Worth the Effort
So, we’re thinking that it might not be a bad idea to keep going with our “Best Places to Grab A Drink in San Francisco” thing because, let’s admit it, the world has become a very dark and gloomy place and sometimes there’s not much else one can do other than grab a beer or a cocktail and snuggle up with some friends in a place that lets us pretend that everything is okay with society.
NLS Selects: Four Beer Halls Worth the Trip
We’ve said it many, many times, and we’re here to say it again: if you love beer, then you love San Francisco. While the city and the surrounding areas (particularly Sonoma & Napa Valley) are world famous for their wine production, the Bay Area itself has accepted its poorer-quality terroir with aplomb and decided to focus its energies on the brewing and distribution of a different sort of liquid elixir.
Signs of Spring: The 52nd Annual Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival
The blooming of the cherry trees is a classic sign of Spring throughout many Asian cultures. Each year, the cherry trees send forth their delicate petals, reminding us that no matter how long and dark the winter might have been, Spring has arrived to lift and warm our spirits.
Scrub Your Soul at the New Living Expo
Does life have you feeling crushed? Do you wake up sometimes with an acute sense of despair and helplessness? Do you find yourself reading blogs and looking for answers? If so, then you are the perfect sort of individual to check out the New Living Expo!
Opening Day at Oracle Park
Winter is long, and winter is tiring. Although in the Bay Area we don’t see the layers of snowfall or suffer from the crushing pressure of ice buildup, we do find ourselves in a gray time full of fog and chillier temperatures. It is fitting that we look eagerly towards the first signs of Spring. One of these, and for many it is the only one that matters, is the beginning of baseball season.
Wine Time! The Polk Street Spring Wine Walk Returns
So far this year we’ve highlighted several beer-centric festivals. While these are fun, and while these are exciting, they are also very filling. For many of us, it is hard to muster up enthusiasm for an event that will result in us consuming several loaves of bread in liquid form. This is why the gods invented wine.
