Holi (Festival of Color) Comes to San Francisco
The Indian celebration of Holi (known throughout the west as the Festival of Colors) is a celebration that takes place in India every spring. Like many such springtime festivals throughout the world, Holi serves a multitude of purposes, such as proclaiming the victory of Good over Evil, the repairing of broken friendships, and—most importantly—the end of winter. Holi also acts similarly to Thanksgiving in that it is a time to celebrate the experience of a good harvest as well as the closeness of family and friends. While many elements of this festival may seem familiar, there is one thing, perhaps its most unique aspect, that sets it apart.

38th Annual San Rafael Holiday Parade & Winter Wonderland
San Rafael, one of the most charming towns within the Bay Area, will once again lure in revelers and merrymakers of all stripes for its annual Holiday Parade & Winter Wonderland! A month-long celebration of the holiday season, the Winter Wonderland itself lasts from the weekend of Thanksgiving until Christmas and features plenty of decorations, activities, shops, restaurants, and other delights that will satisfy even the most scrooge-like among us. The real fun, however, begins on November 24th, the day after Thanksgiving, when a parade and light show will kick off the Winter Wonderland.
San Francisco International Hip Hop Dance Festival
In 1993, a popular and incredibly skilled hip-hop dance teacher in San Francisco named Micaya decided to start putting on her own shows. Funded largely by her own means and the donations of friends and family, Micaya’s shows were an immediate success, and they began selling out almost immediately.

This Sunday, the first of October, a very special event will take place in San Francisco’s famous Castro neighborhood. Known as one one of the most welcoming neighborhoods in the country for LGBTQ individuals, the Castro has long been home to some of the the City by the Bay’s most daring and convention-bucking festivals, fairs, and art happenings. The Castro Street Fair is a time for all of the district’s already notable personalities and creators to get together in one large celebration of creativity and passion.

Fans of literature rejoice! From October 6-14 the great city of San Francisco will host the annual Litquake, an event that rejoices in books, letters, writers, and everything in between.
