Weezer, Death Cab for Cutie, and Other Alt Rock Stars Play Oracle Arena
Weezer, Bastille, Halsey, Silversun Pickups, CHVRCHES, X Ambassadors, and Death Cab for Cutie are booked to play at Oracle Arena, in Oakland California on December 11th. This is an intense lineup of supremely talented bands that offer diverse experiences. From the pop jams of Weezer to the thought-provoking rock of the Silversun Pickups, from the moody and literate music of Death Cab For Cutie to the contemporary feel of CHVRCHES, this lineup seems too good to be true. The world-renowned music scene is yet another reason to love California’s Greater Bay Area.
Golden State Warriors vs. Milwaukee Bucks at Oracle Arena
Warriors! Warriors! Warriors! Last year some skeptical NBA fans claimed that the Golden State Warriors‘ 2014-2015 season achievements might have been equal parts luck and skill. The team has, however, tipped off the 2015-2016 season in an unprecedented fashion. The Warriors have already beaten multiple playoff teams. Moreover, while Steph Curry proved that last year’s MVP award was fully deserved, it’s clear that the Warriors are not a one-man team. Andrew Bogut continues to be a premier big man while Klay Thompson builds on his reputation as a top-shooting guard in the league. These NBA stars have continued to roll out their long list of versatile small-ball players including Draymond Green, Andre Iguodala, Harrison Barnes, and Shaun Livingston.
Local Circus Production “Salvage” Hits the Stage in November
Salvage is a local and original circus production by Circus Beyond the Ring, an extension of Kinetic Arts Productions. The plot follows a group of survivors who have narrowly escaped a recent global catastrophe. As the group is faced with the seemingly insurmountable task of recreating their environment, each survivor emerges with a rewired world view, some feel diminished and fragile, while others are invigorated by the boundless possibility of rebuilding civilization.
The 71st Annual Nutcracker Performance by the San Francisco Ballet 2015
On Christmas Eve, 1944, the audience at San Francisco’s War Memorial Opera House experienced the very first American performance of The Nutcracker, staged by artistic director, William Christensen, and starring Gisella Caccialanza as the Sugar Plum Fairy. After the enormous success of this production, San Francisco Ballet has presented The Nutcracker every Christmas Eve and throughout the winter season ever since.

After Dark Light Art Installations at the California Historical Society
If you’ve heard anything about the California Historical Society this year, you probably heard about their year-long exhibition of City Rising: San Francisco and the 1915 World’s Fair, which kicked off back in February, and will be ending in the first week of January, 2016. A major part of this exhibition was a series called Engineers of Illumination, where five projected-light installations honor the stunning achievements of the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition.
Upcoming San Francisco Comedy Shows
Known for his autobiographical humor, David Sedaris specializes in poignant comedy that is often pulled from his unconventional childhood in the suburbs of Raleigh, North Carolina, his Greek heritage, his varying stream of jobs, and his move to Europe with his partner. His most recent book, Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls forms the focus of his current tour, which hits San Francisco for one night only on November 16th. His comic debut was in 1992, when he recounted his true-life account of being a Macy’s elf in his piece, "Santaland Diaries" on NPR’s Morning Edition. His witty observations of the ordinary-bizarre have kept audiences in fits of laughter ever since.

Free Movie Night at Orinda Theatre 2015
It’s really common today for families, couples, and friends to head out to the movie theater on any night of the week. Movie theatres today are often multiplexes with more than 10 movie screens, several showing times, attached to malls with big box stores, and promise 3-D projectors and state of the art sound systems. But, remember all the theatres you’ve seen in the movies from the early days of cinema? The lit-up theatre in the center of town that only showed one or two flicks at a time, and the whole town would come out on Friday night to see the show.
