The 71st Annual Nutcracker Performance by the San Francisco Ballet

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on November 9, 2015

On Christmas Eve, 1944, the audience at San Francisco’s War Memorial Opera House experienced the very first American performance of The Nutcracker, staged by artistic director, William Christensen, and starring Gisella Caccialanza as the Sugar Plum Fairy. After the enormous success of this production, San Francisco Ballet has presented The Nutcracker every Christmas Eve and throughout the winter season ever since.

San Francisco Ballet’s sparkling production of Nutcracker, set here in our own “City by the Bay,” has introduced audiences of all ages to the magnificent world of ballet. An instant sensation, the ballet launched a national holiday tradition, and today The Nutcracker is performed by countless ballet companies across America during the Christmas season.

Audiences can’t resist the enchanting story of The Nutcracker. The children, parents, toys, the larger-than-life Christmas tree, snow falling, dancing sweets, sparkling costumes, elegant ballerinas, the handsome prince, and Tchaikovsky’s astounding score have been entertaining audiences for more than a century, and have become integral to the Christmas season.

San Francisco Ballet’s The Nutcracker performances are seen by many people in the city of San Francisco each and every year, and if you want to catch a performance of The Nutcracker by one of the greatest and oldest American ballet companies today, all you need are tickets. This magical performance is best experienced in groups, and designed to be enjoyed by families, friends, and loved ones. This holiday season, experience the beauty and athleticism of San Francisco Ballet’s international cast of world-class dancers in The Nutcracker, a San Francisco tradition since 1944.

This year, performances will run daily from December 16th to December 31st (except for Dec. 25th) at the War Memorial Opera House. To buy your tickets in advance and learn more about the show, visit the San Francisco Ballet’s website.
