Oaktoberfest
Oktoberfests are a worldwide phenomenon, attracting thousands of beer-guzzling maniacs to the far reaches of the globe once the weather begins to change. Here in the Bay Area, because we like to have fun and drink fantastic beer just like everywhere else, our celebration of fermented yeast and hops occurs, as it should, on October 1st. Unlike everywhere else, we don’t call it “Oktoberfest.” Instead, because our festival takes place in Oakland, we call it OAKTOBERFESt.
Castro Street Fair
Castro Street, long famed for its antics, art, and acceptance of everyone, is pulling out all the stops (and inviting you to do the same) as it prepares for its Forty-Third Annual Street Fair. Held on October 2nd, the Castro Street Fair will be a chance for you to cut loose and let out your inner lunatic as you roam along San Francisco’s Castro and Market Streets eating great street-food, listening to live music from several stages, and staring at all the other weirdos who have come to make this a truly one-of-a-kind event.
Re:Make 2016
San Francisco is widely recognized as one of the primary hubs of tech culture in the world. With dozens of startups and globally ubiquitous companies (such as Apple, Google, and Facebook) camped in its backyard, its reputation as a mecca for creative oddballs, computer geeks, code writers, and rich people is well deserved. This weekend, all of that comes together during the Re:Make festival put on by Brit+Co, a company that works with and for makers of all stripes. Kicking off with a special summit on Friday, September 30th, that looks to bring together innovators and major players in the current creative and branding market, the festival itself goes into maximum overdrive on Saturday, October 1st, when hundreds of bright minds will gather together at Fort Mason Center for a day of information exchange, workshops, demonstrations, lectures, and brainstorming.
Folsom Street Fair
Now known throughout the world, the wild, unpredictable, and bawdy Folsom Street Fair is coming once again to Folsom Street in San Francisco. Regarded by many as the best leather festival on earth (and without a doubt the largest), the Folsom Street Fair stretches over more than 13 city blocks, into which it packs upwards of 400,000 people for a day of raunchy, sexy, and shameless fun.
Korean Day Cultural Festival
As we have often noted on this blog, San Francisco has long been a great place to be if you want to celebrate, revel in, and engage with the cultures of the world. From it’s rich Polynesian heritage to its ubiquitous Japanese traditions, San Francisco sees itself as a bastion of multiculturalism and a place that welcomes you, no matter where you come from, with open and loving arms.
2016 “Tour de Fat” Bike & Beer Festival
New Belgium Brewing Company is known throughout the country for their wide range of beers. They are also widely celebrated for their extra curricular (or extra beericular) activities, specifically the Tour de Fat. For those of you who don’t know, the Tour de Fat is a wandering jubilee that New Belgium (whose flagship beer is Fat Tire) puts on every year, one that travels throughout the country to cities like Chicago, Boise, Fort Collins, and (of course) San Francisco. The Tour de Fat is a magnificent chance for you to celebrate two of the greatest achievements known to humanity: bikes and beer.
Free Comedy Day in the Park
Comedy returns to San Francisco’s Sharon Meadow in a big way this weekend as the 2016 Comedy Day in the Park gears up for its annual summer festival of big laughs, big names, and big surprises. Widely considered to be the largest one-day-only comedy event in the Bay Area, Comedy Day in the Park features five consecutive hours of comedy with over 40 different comedians performing on one stage. This means that you can pack a blanket, a lunch, and whatever else you need to have a great time and set yourself up for a long and beautiful day of laughs and fun.
21st Annual Ghirardelli Square Chocolate Festival
Who loves chocolate? Just about everyone! Which makes this weekend spectacular because, for the 21st year in a row, San Francisco’s Ghirardelli Square will host its Annual Ghirardelli Square Chocolate Festival. This means that you will experience chocolate in a completely new and in-depth fashion, complete with demonstrations by chefs, eating contests, and classes in making chocolate on your own.
64th Annual Begonia Festival in Capitola
Capitola may not be a town you are familiar with, but this Labor Day Weekend they are attempting to change all that with their Begonia Festival. As the name implies, this festival is dedicated to the beautiful flower with the many-colored blooms that calls many warm and tropical locations its home. In a tribute to the flower, the festival itself is a bold splash of light that goes a long way to brightening up the final moments of summer.
46th Annual Millbrae Art & Wine Festival
