Castro Street Fair

Castro Street, long famed for its antics, art, and acceptance of everyone, is pulling out all the stops (and inviting you to do the same) as it prepares for its Forty-Third Annual Street Fair.  Held on October 2nd, the Castro Street Fair will be a chance for you to cut loose and let out your inner lunatic as you roam along San Francisco’s Castro and Market Streets eating great street-food, listening to live music from several stages, and staring at all the other weirdos who have come to make this a truly one-of-a-kind event.

The Castro Street Fair is an institution in the best sense of the word, taking place every year since 1974, when Harvey Milk first put it into motion.  It all starts at 11:00 in the morning, when several hundred booths and vendors open their doors to offer you the chance to purchase art, crafts, food, drink, antiques, clothing, and most every other item under the sun.  As the day progresses, take advantage of the presence of:

• Four different stages with live musicians and DJs.

• Your favorite food carts and Bay Area breweries.

• Country music and line dancing at the Sundance Saloon.

• So many vendors of original artworks and crafts.

Because the organizers of the Castro Street Fair understand that some of the best music in the country comes from the Bay Area, they have ensured that the four stages are packed with loads of talent, with high-quality entertainment coming from such acts as:

• The Monster show

• Markus

• Bitch, Please

• The Purple Ones!

• San Francisco Lesbian Gay Freedom Band

• A production of the play Fun Home performed by the Curran Theater Company

• Simone Gemini

• Jim Hopkins

• DJ Rose Gold

Costumes are a huge part of the Castro Street Fair, so don’t think that you can get away with just observing!  Dress up in your most outrageous duds and stand tall and proud among the thousands of others who will do the same.  This is an opportunity to become whoever you want to be for a few hours, so don’t squander it!

The Castro Street Fair will take place on October 2nd, from 11:00am until 6:00pm.  It costs nothing to attend.
