The Chris Robinson Brotherhood Plays The Fillmore
An evening with The Chris Robinson Brotherhood is the perfect opportunity to enjoy a seamless blend of blues, rock, contemporary, and a 70’s vibe. The Fillmore, one of the Bay Area’s favorite venues, will host these stars on December 11th at 9 PM.
Weezer, Death Cab for Cutie, and Other Alt Rock Stars Play Oracle Arena
Weezer, Bastille, Halsey, Silversun Pickups, CHVRCHES, X Ambassadors, and Death Cab for Cutie are booked to play at Oracle Arena, in Oakland California on December 11th. This is an intense lineup of supremely talented bands that offer diverse experiences. From the pop jams of Weezer to the thought-provoking rock of the Silversun Pickups, from the moody and literate music of Death Cab For Cutie to the contemporary feel of CHVRCHES, this lineup seems too good to be true. The world-renowned music scene is yet another reason to love California’s Greater Bay Area.
Vance Joy Plays the Fox Theatre
When acoustic chart-toppers “Riptide” and “Mess is Mine” hit every road trip playlist this past summer, Australian singer-songwriter Vance Joy became an instant celebrity. Known to take inspiration from greats like Bob Dylan and George Harrison, Vance sings with a soft melody and an impressive vocal range makes him instantly recognizable. He typically has no technical enhancements in the background, and his style is categorized by many as "easy listening" or "acoustic-based."
The Dandy Warhols Play Great American Music Hall
On Tuesday December 1st and Wednesday December 2nd at 8 p.m., with doors opening at 7 p.m., The Dandy Warhols will play the Great American Music Hall at 859 O’Farrell in San Francisco. The show will be well worth the $30 ticket price or the $54.95 for dinner and admission. Joel Gion and Miranda Lee Richards will open.
Lee Ronaldo Plays Swedish American Hall
Sonic Youth is alternative rock. This is the band that inspired Pearl Jam and got a shout out from the Pixies. Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore, Lee Ranaldo and Steve Shelley took rhythm, noise and art and threw it in a blender thereby creating one of the most influential bands of all time. Being the best band to ever come out of New York is an incredible feat in and of itself.
The Flaming Lips Play San Francisco on New Years Eve
The Flaming Lips are still the band to see after over 30 years of performing. The fact that they are from Oklahoma City is just the tip of the weird iceberg that is Wayne Coyne and his band mates. Here are some of the things the Lips live shows have bequeathed to the world: puppets, giant hands, elaborate costumes, blood (lots of blood), confetti, a video of an eye surgery, a gigantic inflatable hamster ball, and more confetti. Lots of confetti.
Mudhoney To Perform at The Chapel
Before Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Nirvana, there was Mark Arm and Mudhoney. Many argue that Mudhoney made Grunge possible and aided the changing of the musical guard in the early 90’s possible. Seeing them live is to Nirvana what seeing Leadbelly would have been to taking in the Rolling Stones. In 1991, releases like Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge laid the groundwork for all Seattle grunge to follow. Famous for cultivating punk and metal but adding rhythm and percussion, they improved on what bands like the Melvins and Green River had started.
Chance the Rapper to Perform at Fox Theater in Oakland
Chance the Rapper is a 22-year-old hip-hop artist who hails from Chatham of Chicago, Illinois. Fans, however, will tell you that the man needs no introduction. Since the 2013 release of Acid Rap, which features guest artists such as Vic Mensa, Action Bronson, and more, almost anyone who knows anything about the rap scene will tell you that Chance is on fire. In fact, Acid Rap was even nominated for Best Mixtape at the BET Hip Hop Awards in 2013.
Rockin’ in the Bay Area
Live music abounds this fall in the Bay Area. People can hear everything from classical music to hard rock; it all depends on your taste and desires.
Owl City at The Regency Ballroom
“’Cause I get a thousand hugs from ten million lightening bugs,” sings multi-instrumentalist Adam Young of the luminous Owl City who is about to begin the On The Verge Tour. Songs such as “Fireflies,” mentioned above, or “Vanilla Twilight” tug at the heartstrings of teenage girls everywhere, but they aren’t the only listeners who adore Owl City. This American electronica music can be heard at noisy college parties, your local shopping mall, and everywhere in between… and beyond!
