Commuter Parity Act of 2015 (H.R. 990)
If you commute to work amongst the hustle and bustle and sometimes standstill traffic of San Francisco or the greater Bay Area, chances are that you were paying some attention to the House of Representatives on February 13, 2015. On this date, bipartisan legislation introduced the Commuter Parity Act, amending the Internal Revenue Code of 1986.
In the United States, transportation costs are, by far, some of the highest household expenses, and in urban California areas, this can be even more of an issue. Previously, commuters who drove themselves to work received certain tax benefits, which employees who opted for public transit, for example, did not receive. Now, transit and parking benefit caps have been set, and this new parity will encourage public transportation, carpools, and employee commuter programs. In short, drivers are no longer receiving the tax benefits they were previously accustomed to earning, and these changes will encourage them to save money in other areas, opting, for example, for alternate modes of transportation.
Employer Responses to the Commuter Parity Act of 2015
Does all of this sound a bit complicated? If you're an employer, what's important to know is that more and more employees - and those top potential hires! - will be looking for employee commuter shuttle bus options.
Moreover, in addition to contributing to a greener way of life, employee shuttle programs improve your staff members' quality of life as they will save them money and allow them to relax, or even work, on the commute to and from the office. Many of the country's top college graduates and seasoned specialists are hesitant to move to our beautiful Bay Area simply because they do not want to spend their lives sitting behind the wheel in traffic. Whether you're in the apparel, automotive, biomedical, software, telecommunications, or another booming industry, employee transportation programs can be a great way to entice the team members that you want working for you.
