The Event Proper Will Be On Exhibit From November Through January 2015

Soma by the Flaming Lotus Girls, however, offers a preview of what’s to come. This two-year installation was placed in July of 2014 and will be on view through the summer of 2016 at Mission Street’s Embarcadero Pier 14. This interactive masterpiece is the artists’ interpretations of two neurons communicating via axon bridge. Having debuted at the infamous Burning Man Festival a few years back, this large-scale work of art is a sight to behold both during the daylight or as a part of the city’s vibrant nightlife.

About The Artists

The Flaming Lotus Girls are a collaborate group of 100+ artists who focus on robotics, pyrotechnics, sculpture, and more. Other feature artists have included:

• Eric Staller, made famous in the city by his Volkswagen Lightmobile;
• Laura Haddad, who explores perception and phenomenology;
• Tom Drugan, an artists who incorporates concepts of clean energy into his pieces;
• Brian Goggin, investigator of the role of chaos via found objects and more;
• Vito Acconci, an architect who contemplates the complexity of public versus private spaces;
• …and many other locally and internationally renowned visual artists.

Locals might opt to tour Illuminate SF via bicycle or public transit. Unfortunately, however, many visitors have learned the hard way that attempting to drive from site to site results, at best, in a stressful evening. In fact, drivers are unable to safely view the installments. These pieces deserve much better than a glance or two from the corner of your eye. They are lapidary.
