Big Head Todd & The Monsters with Mike Doughty

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on December 28, 2015

As life settles down after the holidays, your home might feel a bit quiet. Why not head out to a show at one of the Bay Area’s favorite music venues? On Saturday, January 16th, Big Head Todd and Mike Doughty will perform at The Fillmore! Have you purchased your tickets yet?

Big Head Todd

Formed in 1984, Big Head Todd emerged from Colorado. Their 1993 album, Sister Sweetly, went platinum, and among their top songs were “Bittersweet,” “Boom Boom,” “Broken Hearted Savior,” “It’s Alright,” and “Please Don’t Tell Her.” The group has a cult following, as structure meets flow. Fans love their methodical rock in a jam-band tradition.

At times, Big Head Todd’s music serves as a social or political platform. In 2005, for example, following the Columbia disaster, the band wrote and released a song based on the request of the crewmembers of the Space Shuttle Discovery.

Mike Doughty of Soul Coughing

Mike Doughty will also be performing at The Fillmore. Doughty was a founding member of Soul Coughing in the 1990’s. This indie darling band released a number of famous albums, such as Ruby Vroom, Irresistible Bliss, and El Oso. Most rock listeners know at lease a handful of their songs: “Super Bob Bon,” “Circles,” “Rolling,” “Soft Serve,” and more.

Although Soul Coughing is no longer together, Mike Doughty’s career is impressive: the man has released 17 albums in total! He’s a prolific and unique musician that blends, electronica, rap, spoken word, indie rock, acoustic guitar, and jazz into single offerings. His songs, such as “27 Jennifers,” “Looking at the World from the Bottom of a Well” and “I Hear the Bells” have entered the mainstream consciousness. His songs have been featured on shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Veronica Mars.

Here’s a fun fact: Did you know that Doughty studied poetry at The New School in New York City? In fact, Ani DiFranco was one of his classmates.
