Indians Get Rare Glance at Obama’s Presidential Limousine During Asia Trip

Car lovers in Mumbai, India got a rare treat recently when President Obama paid them a visit as part of his Asian trip. President Obama was traveling in his new Cadillac presidential limousine, the Barack Mobile C1, the “ultimate vehicle on the planet.”

“It is a rare chance to see the vehicle for real,” said Ankit Kumar, a vintage automobile enthusiast.

Also called “The Beast,” the presidential limo is reportedly transported from one place to another in a special compartment in Air Force One along with six other armored vehicles, which are part of the presidential motorcade. Built by the Cadillac division of General Motors, the brand-new limo reportedly weighs more than 14,000 pounds, sports military-grade steel armor and five-inch thick, ballistic glass windows and is the best-protected vehicle on the planet.

The arrival of the limousine created great excitement among Indian car enthusiasts. Nitin Dossa, Chairman of the Western India Automobile Association and a member of the Vintage and Classic Car Club of India said, “I own four Cadillacs. Staying on the first floor of my Peddar Road flat, my window will give me the best view.”

Another car aficionado, Jigar Kumar Desai, said that even a glimpse of the vehicle would be a memory he would cherish for a lifetime. “We have heard that the Caddy also has its own air-generating system and is completely sealed to protect the President from chemical or biological attacks,” he said.

The Beast is said to feature a wide range of communication equipment that enables President Obama to stay in constant contact with the White House, Strategic Air Command and other important parts of the military and government.
