Dropouts in Columbus Marathon Will Receive Limousine Rides

Organizers of the upcoming marathon in Columbus, Ohio, have a surprise waiting for runners who cannot finish the distance race on foot. Marathon participants who cannot finish the race for any reason will receive rides in limousines to the finish line. Columbus Marathon Race Director Darris Blackford told reporters that he wanted runners who could not finish to have a different experience than the one he had when he was unable to finish on one occasion. Mr. Blackford and others who could not finish took a ride in a school bus, a most practical mode of transportation, but also one in which most people over the age of 18 feel a bit odd.

Blackford told reporters that runners who cannot finish deserve more than a bus ride to the finish. So, he has arranged for stretch limousines to pick up participants who cannot finish the marathon for any reason. Blackford expects the sagging spirits of injured and exhausted runners will receive a much-needed boost from riding in the plush interiors of the limos. He has reserved at least one 12-seat limousine for the October 17 race, and there are around 5,000 marathoners expected to participate.
