Oracle Park
Oracle Park is located in the South Beach area of San Francisco, and is home to the city’s Major League Baseball Franchise, the San Francisco Giants. The team used to play in Candlestick Park which they shared with the 49ers of the NFL. Then, in 2000 the new stadium was built and holds nearly 42,000 screaming fans. AT&T acquired the naming rights in 2006, as it was formerly known as Pacific Bell Park and SBC Park.
As noted, the stadium is primarily used by the SF Giants, but there are other sports teams that have called it home. Past and present teams include: the University of California Golden Bears football team, the California Redwoods of the United Football League, the San Francisco Demons of the XFL, and the Fight Hunger Bowl was played there from 2002 to 2013.
There are also occasional special events at Oracle Park. The US Men’s soccer team has used it for exhibition matches, as well as the 2011 World Football Challenge. Snowboarding and skiing competitions are also held, with a considerable amount of snow created, (the stadiums location on the bay lends to cooler temperatures than other areas of San Francisco). American Idol has used it as an audition location, and several operas have been broadcast on the big screen.
