St. Patrick’s Day 2015 – Where to Celebrate

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on March 13, 2015

You don’t have to be Irish to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, and there are plenty of places in San Francisco to do it. From pub crawls & bar hopping to parades & block parties, there’s an event for every taste.

The Main Event

Don’t miss the annual Saint Patrick’s Day parade on March 14th, going on its 164th year. Irish music, Irish food, Irish culture, and Irish dancing – it’s the ultimate way to kick off your St. Patty’s celebrations.

It starts at the corner of Second St. and Market St. and ends at the Civic Center Plaza. Thousands of people, both locals and visitors, gather for the big event, all donning green of course. This year’s theme is technology, and how it links San Francisco to Ireland.

Block Parties

There are several block parties in the city this year. Funcheap’s 2015 Shamrock St. Patrick’s Day party starts at 11 a.m. Saturday at SOMA StrEat Food, and features live music, beer and food specials, a free Jameson tasting at 6p.m., and Jameson giveaways all day.

The famous Irish Bank Block Parties continue this year with two dates, on both March 14 and March 17. The largest St. Patrick’s Day Party in San Francisco features live bands and DJs all day until midnight on both dates. The party is first come, first serve, but the space is large.

In the Financial District, the Royal Exchange is hosting its 30th annual St. Patrick’s Day Block Party. The Royal Exchange party always means lots of beer, lots of people, and lots of fun. This year Wonderbread 5 will be performing.

Pub Crawl

This year join a two-day pub crawl — the San Francisco St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl along the Marina and Union Street. Drink specials and a map are available here.

Restaurant and Bar Specials

For an authentic Irish meal, head to Starry Plough on March 17, where they’ll be serving corned beef and cabbage all day (or at least until it runs out). There’s a $10-$15 cover, but the live music is worth it.

For more live music and great drink specials, plus some of the city’s best food trucks, head to Taverna Aventine’s indoor/outdoor alley party.

And of course, the city’s Irish bars are a great place for Guinness, and Guinness is always a good idea. Kennedy’s Irish Pub, Durty Nelly’s Pub, Phoenix Irish Bar, McNally’s Irish Pub, and Harrington’s Bar and Grill are all classic Irish spots perfect for a St. Patrick’s Day celebration, or to visit any time of year.
