What are you doing on Sunday, February 7th? Recently, we heard that Super Bowl Sunday is the best day of the year to head to Disneyland. Whether or not this is true, we suspect that the majority of our readers will be watching the game instead, as the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos make NFL history! This year’s game, the Bowl’s 50th anniversary, is taking place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, a part of our beautiful Bay Area. The Carolina Panthers (17-1) will play the Denver Broncos (14-4). For which team will you be rooting?
This big game will pit two unique quarterbacks against each other. Cam Newton is under consideration for the MVP honor; this season he threw the ball for 30 touchdowns, and he ran the ball himself for 10 touchdowns. The 26-year-old Newton is a relative newcomer compared to the Bronco’s quarterback, Peyton Manning.
At 39-years-old, Manning is the oldest quarterback to start a Super Bowl. Future Hall-of-Famer Peyton Manning previously won the Bowl with the Indianapolis Colts, and if the Broncos become the Super Bowl 50 champions, he would be the first quarterback to win the Super Bowl with two different franchises. Manning’s participation in the game is particularly special, as there were doubts regarding whether or not he would be able to play due to his recent and serious injuries.
These quarterbacks are only two of the players under the spotlight. Denver is led by their defense with all four of their Pro Bowl selections playing on that side of the ball: cornerbacks Chris Harris and Aqib Talib as well as linebackers Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware. Carolina’s lineup includes running backs Mike Tolbert and Jonathan Stewart as well as linebacker, Luke Kuechly.
