Christmas Day will offer up one of the most anticipated games of the year as the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers square off in a rematch of last year’s NBA Finals. These two National Basketball Association teams were the best in the league last season, and not much has changed. Experts anticipate seeing these two teams back in the Championship again. This game could be a sneak peak at what that might look like.
Both teams have had strong campaigns with Golden State looking especially sharp. They’ve been on an incredible early season winning streak even as they are missing their coach, Steve Kerr, who has been replaced in the interim by Luke Walton. This 2015-16 season has shown the Warriors continuing to refine and to dial in their small ball line-up especially when it comes time to close out games. That’s why this lineup, composed of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala, Harrison Barnes, and Draymond Green, has earned such unique nicknames like "Nuclear Lineup," "The Closer," and, "The Knockout Punch."
The Cleveland Cavaliers have gotten off to a solid start, as well. They, too, have the look of a championship-caliber team. Though they lost to the Warriors last year in six games, they held a lead in that series, and they managed to make it close even as they were hammered with injuries. Timofey Mozgov was pushed into a more central role on the team and that has continued to great effect this year. The re-signing of the consistently talented Tristan Thompson has also paid huge dividends. Additionally, the Cavs feature the ball-handling skills of Kyrie Irving. While the Cavaliers have a solid start to the season, it has also been fraught with inconsistencies, as they have dropped large leads and unexpectedly lost to some supposedly weaker teams.
