Old-Fashioned Independence Day Celebration in Santa Cruz

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on July 5, 2016

This Independence Day, consider doing something out of the ordinary. Instead of the cacophony of music and fireworks to be found in most locations throughout the Bay Area, the Wilder Ranch State Park is holding their Old-Fashioned Independence Day celebration. Just two miles south of Santa Cruz, Wilder Ranch State Park is a beautiful and quiet park with plenty of sprawling lawns for you and your family to come and relax before heading back into the city.

Wilder Ranch State Park begins their Old-Fashioned celebration at 11:00 a.m., when guests are invited to meet in the parks apple orchard, located in front of Highway 1’s tunnel. Bring a noisemaker or an instrument (it doesn’t matter how well you play), dress like you are from the turn of the last century (i.e. 1900’s), and have an amazing time as you prepare for a parade! The gathered group will make its way through the Wilder Ranch’s cultural preservation complex and then to the front lawn where guests will witness the raising of the American flag, inspiring speeches, and plenty of that sweet, old, patriotic music.

After the parade ends and the speeches fade away, there is still plenty to do. Try out one of the many old-fashioned lawn games available, listen to even more patriotic music by acts like the 5M’s and members of the Society Orchestra, make yourself a souvenir at one of the many craft tables, or watch some of the live demonstrations of how people used to live back when steam was still a reasonable way to power things. Throughout the day, tours will be led through the compound, the old farm house, and the Victorian home situated on the grounds. If you want, bring a picnic lunch to eat on the lawn. You can also purchase a delicious bratwurst, dill pickles, and fresh-squeezed lemonade from one of the food vendors after you convert your futuristic 2016 currency into tokens reminiscent of the early 1900’s.

The Old-Fashioned Independence day celebration goes until 4:00 in the afternoon, giving you plenty of time to make it back to the city for legendary firework displays and other activities the 4th requires.
