May is a glorious time to visit San Francisco, with many fun events for people of all ages and various interests. Home owners and landscapers will enjoy the San Francisco Decorator Showcase, and families can celebrate with food, fun and entertainment at the Cinco De Mayo Festival. Here are just a few of the many events in the Bay Area to enjoy this May.
San Francisco Designer Showcase
Even through the seasons don’t really change that much in the Bay area, Spring is still a time when homeowners start thinking about updating their homes and yards. The showcase will feature many displays of landscaping artistry, as well as interior decorating ideas from the area’s top builders, decorators and designers.
The Designer Showcase is held by San Francisco University High School, and the proceeds benefit their financial aid program. Over $13 million has been raised by the school since it started back in 1977. Last year, they raised over $705,000. Tickets to the event are $30 and can be purchased online at http://decoratorshowcase.org.
The showcase runs from April 25 to May 25 at 3630 Jackson Street, San Francisco. Hours are Tuesday through Thursday and Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Friday: 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., Sunday and Memorial Day: 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Closed Mondays, except Memorial Day.
Cinco de Mayo Festival
The Mission District in San Francisco will be home to the eleventh annual Cinco de Mayo Festival in 2015. The event centers on Valencia Street, and will be held on Saturday, May 2. This is an alcohol-free family festival, filled with music, dancing, art, entertainers and plenty of wonderful food and celebration. Last year, nearly 10,000 people visited, enjoying the rich heritage of Mexican and Latin American cultures.
A special Kids Zone will be set up, including a petting zoo and inflatables so the kids can let out some energy. Several musical instruments will also be provided, so kids can try out the Accordion, Cello, Trumpet, Guitar and many other Percussion instruments. Adults can join in the fun, with a special craft section that will teach weaving, beading, magic tricks and more.
