Fourth Is Filled With Plenty Of Fun Events
Each year, the Fourth of July is an opportunity to explore the San Francisco sights and see what makes the region so unique. This year there is a little bit for everyone for people who wants to have fun and celebrate the nation’s independence.
Watch The Fireworks
San Francisco has two major fireworks displays. The first is set off on a barge on Pier 39. The other takes place off Municipal Pier. The fireworks displays usually begin shortly after dark, approximately around 9:30. The displays create a colorful show across San Francisco and can be viewed from various parts of the city. But be aware that parking and driving around the city, especially along the waterfront can be challenging. Some areas of the city are blocked off to motor vehicles. Several good places to watch the display include: Aquatic Park, the Cannery, Ghirardelli Square, Fisherman’s Wharf, and Coit Tower.
Take A Dinner Cruise
Several of the cruise companies in the region offer cruise packages on the Fourth of July. They make for great viewing of the fireworks. Perhaps, the most well-known is the one by Horn Blower Cruises and Events. The cruise includes a four-course seated dinner and a sails across the Bay. People can view the fireworks display from the outer deck of the ship. Another is the Blue and Gold Fireworks Cruise. The ship departs at Pier 41 and includes a cash bar and snacks. Finally, a cruise is offered to Angel Island. The ship cruises across the water, and people depart on Angel Island. On the island people will enjoy music, dancing, food and beverages. Oh and don’t forget about the amazing view of the fireworks from the island.
Enjoy A Little Jazz
The Fillmore Jazz Festival is the largest free Jazz festival on the West Coast and takes place on July 4 thand 5th. Each year, over 100,000 people enjoy the sounds of cool jazz on multiple stages. The festival also feature 12 blocks of art and crafts, and of course there is plenty of food and beverages to enjoy. The music travels across the spectrum of jazz from soft and smooth to bop and funk. It takes place on Filmore Street between Jackson and Eddy.
