San Francisco’s Fillmore Jazz Festival

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on June 29, 2016

San Francisco’s legendary relationship with art and culture bursts through all subterfuge during the summer months. As we have written about on this blog, there are festivals, street fairs, and markets almost every day of the week, and the weekends are packed with cultural offerings. Well, forgive us for adding one more event to the already massive pile. This weekend, on July 2nd and 3rd from 10am to 6pm, the Fillmore Jazz Festival will return to the streets of San Francisco, turning one of the most well-known districts into a sanctuary for jazz and jazz lovers of all stripes.

The Fillmore Jazz Festival takes over Fillmore Street in a big way. From Jackson to Eddy, the stretch of Fillmore devoted to the festival is awash with nationally and internationally recognized jazz giants. Its lineup is so well-known and anticipated, that the festival is known as the largest free jazz festival on the entire West Coast. Every year, more than 100,000 music lovers gather over Independence Day to listen to the souls pouring from saxophones, to the fire bursting from the keyboards, and the passion from the vocal chords of some of this country’s most talented individuals. This year’s lineup is no exception, and will feature knockout performances by stars like:

  • Gary Zellerbach Quartet
  • W-Beez
  • Real Vocal String Quartet
  • Mat Jenson’s Mix Up Mix Up
  • Eoin Harrington Band
  • Alison Di Bella
  • Akira Tana Secret Agent Band
  • Mads Tolling Quartet
  • California Jazz Conservatory

Not only will these performers showcase many of the original tunes for the crowd of fans, but they will be participating in this year’s theme: In Tribute. It is fitting that a genre of music so known for its homages to previous artists will have a festival highlighting this style of performance. Specifically, this year’s festival will honor musicians who have passed from our lives over the past year, including:

  • Glenn Frey
  • Frank Sinatra, Jr.
  • Dan Hicks
  • Natalie Cole
  • Maurice White
  • Gato Barbieri
  • Phil Woods

The Fillmore Jazz Festival is an opportunity to experience (or re-experience) some of the most stunning music ever composed performed by some of the country’s best performers. Come early, stay late, and enjoy the show.
