San Francisco Unified School District Arts Festival

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on April 8, 2017

Over the course of nine days, from April 29th until May 7th, The San Francisco Unified School District will host the SFUSD Arts Festival, a great way to immerse yourself in student art, upcoming voices, and creativity that is unshackled from the highly commodified world of artistic production.  Working through a wide range of mediums, students in grades preK through 12th from the San Francisco area have worked to cultivate their budding talent, and the SFUST Arts Festival is the time for the public to take a peek into the artistic world of young people.

The SFUSD Arts Festival is one of San Francisco’s most idiosyncratic events.  It was born out of a desire to make arts education and funding available to all students of San Francisco’s public schools.  The SFUSD has, over the past few decades, ensured that arts (embodied through the Arts Education Master Plan) is taught to all students, and the SFUSD Arts Festival is the point towards which all art education reaches.  Students in San Francisco’s schools have been working towards this event for the past few months, and now their dedication pays off in this fabulous festival that takes place throughout San Francisco’s many respected and well-attended museums.

Completely free, the SFUSD Arts Festival admission comes with a ticket to see a special exhibit in the Asian Art Museum: Tomb of Treasures: New Discoveries from China’s Han Dynasty.  Visitors to the Asian Art Museum will also have the chance to explore the museums traditional art catalogue, free of charge.

Other special events that will happen throughout San Francisco in connection to the SFUSD Arts Festival include:

  • Over 80 performances by both community and student groups.  These performances include dramatic works, choral pieces, jazz bands, classical orchestras, marching bands, and dance troupes.  Most concerts will take place in the state-of-the-art Samsung Hall, located at the Asian Art Museum.
  • Readings from creative writers as well as special awards given out to the city’s most inspiring young writers.
  • Plenty of activities and hands-on events for kids and adults happening throughout the city during this wonderful festival.
