Kick Off Fillmore Fest with Grillin’ at the ‘Mo
Today, we are going to inform you about some of the marvelous festivals and events that are taking place throughout San Francisco during the summer by talking a little bit about the Fillmore Summer Fest. Specifically, we want to highlight the Fillmore Summer Fest Kick-Off: Grillin’ in the ‘Mo.
While Fillmore’s Summer Fest is already a worthwhile event (or, we should say, a series of events), Grillin’ in the ‘Mo is one of the most iconic and sweetly anticipated portions of the entire shebang. What is it? Simply put, a massive BBQ and blues concert that is, check it out, only $2. There’s this strange belief that anything worthwhile must cost a lot of money. Today, we want to pop that particular thought bubble.
Grillin’ in the’ Mo takes place at the Hamilton Recreation Center, located at 1900 Geary St. and is put on by a collaborative effort between The Village Project, Bayview YMCA, Western Addition Family Resource Center, Bi-Rite Markets, The Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco, and many other important groups operation within the Bay Area. It is due to this wealth of sponsors and supporters that the event manages to be such a wild success every year while also being able to remain so cheap that anyone can attend. In fact, the $2 charge is only for a food ticket. That means that if you want to just come to watch the music, you can enjoy everything else for absolutely free.
What else is there? Well, to begin with, lots of tie-dye, large soap bubbles, lawn games, face painting, cotton candy, and other activities to dip in and out of as one so desires. But, really, what we all want to see is the blues. And boy oh boy will there be blues. Come check out wildly talented artists such as Tia Carroll and Soul Mechanix playing full sets. DJ Mr. C will also be playing classic soul music all day long on his turntable just to keep things fun and bouncin’.
Grillin’ at the ‘Mo will take place on Saturday, June 8th, starting at 12:00 pm. See you there!
