International Harvester: the 1st Annual Korean Chuseok Festival

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on August 9, 2019

For lovers of kimchi and bulgogi, it is time to break out your pens and mark the 14th of September on your calendars. If you don’t, you run the risk of possibly missing one of the most marvelous events celebrating Korean-American culture in the entire Bay Area! While it might come as a surprise to you that you haven’t heard of the Chuseok Festival yet, don’t be too hard on yourself. The reason its escaped your mind up to this point is simply because this year marks the first ever version of this event in San Francisco!

What, then, is the Chuseok Festival? In traditional Korean culture, Chuseok is the harvest that takes place in the early fall or late summer. Think of it like any other harvest festival or the well-known Oktoberfest so well endorsed by the Germans, except this time it comes from the far west and brings with it an entirely different cultural focus.

The 1st Annual Bay Area Korean Chuseok Festival will be a time for all people to celebrate Korean culture within the Bay Area. While we are familiar with all sorts of other cultural celebrations in our city by the bay, it is true that there are certain cultural heritages that, while present within the city, aren’t as commonly featured as the focus of any one event. The Chuseok Festival will change that in a big way.

At the time of this writing, it is believed that the festival is expected to draw upwards of 5,000 people from around the Bay Area. If you join them, you too will have the chance to watch singers perform traditional Korean songs and dancers perform traditional Korean dances. Martial arts are also a part of the Korean heritage, and there will be no shortage of people engaged in sharing their knowledge of these types of self-defense.

In addition to the performances, there will be vendors and food carts selling traditional Korean dishes as well as fusion treats, artists and craftspeople selling traditional Korean goods, and numerous other local businesses engaged in promoting community engagement.

The 1st Annual Bay Area Korean Chuseok Festival will take place at the Civil War Parade Ground, located in the historic Presidio district of San Francisco. It beings at 11:00 on the morning of September 14th and runs until 5:00 in the evening.
