98th Annual Festa Coloniale Italiana
The Bay Area’s celebrations of cultures around the globe continues this weekend with the 98th Festa Coloniale Italiana in North Beach. Whether or not you possess any Italian heritage, this event will give you plenty to experience (and eat) throughout the entire day of August 20th (from 11:00am to 7:00pm).
Organized by the San Francisco Italian Athletic Club, the Festa Coloniale Italiana centers around the wealth of Italian-American influence and culture that has thrived in San Francisco since the early days of the city and has helped shape the metropolis into the world-famous location that it is today. Held on Stockton Street in North Beach, the festival stretches between Union and Filbert Streets, and features locally and nationally renowned music acts, delicious wine from Californian and Italian vineyards, beer from some of the Bay Area’s most prestigious breweries, and lots and lots of delicious Italian Food. Additionally, there will be scores of booths and vendors plying Italian wares, goods, and other related items that will quickly become treasured keepsakes.
The schedule for this year’s entertainment is heavily loaded, and includes a truly fantastic mix of performers in the classical mode and more modern updates on a timeless tradition. On the stage this year you will have the chance to hear and see the likes of:
John DeMers singing the works of Frank Sinatra
The Tom Torriglia Band
The North Beach Boys
The Ricco Dancers
Along with the above, there will be a pizza-toss championship, classic American songs such in Italian, classic Italian songs sung in Italian, and the proclaimed “Ambassador of Italian Music to America” himself, Mr. Moreno Fruzzetti joining in to bind the whole thing together.
Whether you are a first-generation Italian, think your Grandma might be Italian, or just really, really like spaghetti, the 98th Annual Festa Colonial Italiana is a time to come together with cultural ambassadors to receive a rich experience and immersion into a heritage that many of us have little exposure to outside of The Godfather.
This event is completely free and kid friendly, so bring the family, leave the wallet, and relax in North Beach.
