RSS62nd Annual North Beach Festival
Summer festival season is snugly upon us, as anyone who’s been following the posts from this blog can attest to. Today, we are going to highlight another festival: the 62nd North Beach Festival.
The North Beach Festival is a historic festival not only for the Bay Area, but for the entire country. It has long been considered by many to be one of America’s first outdoor festivals, making it something of a national treasure. For those who have experienced the North Beach Festival before, the smorgasbord of events, booths, music, and art will come as no surprise. If you haven’t yet experienced the magic of the North Beach Festival, now is your time to learn all about why you should go.
Held on Saturday and Sunday, June 11th and 12th, from 10am to 6pm each day, the festival runs along both Grant Avenue and Columbus Avenue. This year will feature well over 125 craft and food booths, an almost unprecedented number, as well as four separate stages for live music and other entertainment, a beer garden, and street painting done in the classic Italian style. Like always, the festival will include the Blessing of the Animals, held at 610 Vallejo Street, where The National Shrine of Saint Francis of Assisi is located.
For those of you with younger children, the North Beach Festival also includes a Kids Chalk Art Area. For a nominal fee, your child or children will be given a square of the street as their very own and some colorful chalk with which to make it sing.
The best part about the North Beach Festival? It is absolutely free! This means that you can pack your family (or your friends or yourself) into a car and enjoy one of the best and longest-running street fairs in the entire country with no added stress on your wallet.
