29th Annual Chinatown Streetfest

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on August 23, 2016

Chinatown is a name synonymous with mystery, adventure, excitement, and exuberance. We go there for the food, we stay there for everything else. What then could be better than an entire festival dedicated to the atmosphere and pleasures of Chinatown?  This weekend, from August 27th and 28th, visitors and residents of Oakland will experience just such an event because, between Harrison Street and 11th Street, the 29th Annual Chinatown Streetfest will be in full and uncontrollable swing.

What could be better than 10 sprawling blocks set aside in the heart of Oakland’s legendary Chinatown featuring hundreds of booths and vendors, mountains of delicious food, and the traditions and ceremonies that have been handed down in a cascade of generations?  You will see arts, you will see crafts, and with two different stages you will see plenty of live music and dance.

Some of the most anticipated acts of the day include:

  • Get Lucky: A very popular Bay Area group, Get Lucky plays Jazz, R&B, Top 40, and everything in between.

  • Jest Jammin: Considered to be the last of the local Chinatown bands, Jest Jammin has been jamming since 1968 and features a lineup of musicians that have called Chinatown their home for many, many decades.

  • Fast Times: The focus with these performers is dance, and it doesn’t matter if the music came out in 1960 or 2016, they want to play it and see you sway it.

  • D’Groove: a nine-piece band that combines infectious rhythms with rap, absolutely nailing every set with their high-energy and incredible talent.

In addition to the live music, there will be an educational and engaging Cultural Village that has been loving and painstakingly assembled by the Oakland Asian Cultural Center.

The cultural immersion will continue on the Cultural Stage, a Chinatown Streetfest favorite.  While the lineup has yet to be announced, you can expect to see plenty of traditional dance, clothing, and musicianship occurring on the Cultural Stage.

This weekend, the place to be is Chinatown in Oakland, where the party begins at 10:00 in the morning and runs until 5:30 at night, costs nothing to attend, and gives you a unbeatable bounty in return.
