10th Annual California’s Artisan Cheese Festival

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on March 17, 2016

California’s cows are the happiest – or so the advertisements say – and their cheese is no exception. Celebrate the unique variety of cheeses in the Golden State at the 10th Annual California’s Artisan Cheese Festival from March 18-20th, 2016.

Since the first festival in March 2007, the mission of the California Artisan Cheese Festival has been working to educate the public about artisan cheese, support the overall California cheese making community and celebrate the uniquely flavorful work of current artisan cheesemakers. It holds the honor of having been the first weekend-length festival of cheeses, wines and beers, and has attracted over 20,000 attendees in its first eight years. Over a dozen award-winning artisan cheesemakers have shared their talents and cheeses at the event, leading a variety of educational presentations, discussions and cheese tastings.

Visitors to California’s Artisan Cheese Festival can enjoy a number of new and unique cheeses, taking advantage of tastings that occur at nearly every seminar session during the event. In addition to the cheese tastings, attendees can sample artisan breads, foods, beers and wines from local, national and international producers.

The festival strongly promotes the sustainability of the California cheese making community, and encourages a better understanding of how artisan cheeses can be more flexible and sustainable than non-artisan cheeses. In addition to providing educational support, California’s Artisan Cheese Festival gives 10% of ticket proceeds to area nonprofits that work to preserve livestock grazing land, educate future milk and cheese producers and support the community at large. In addition, the festival provides donations to the Redwood Empire Food Bank in Sonoma County. In total, the festival has donated as much as $80,000 to various California nonprofit organizations.

This year, participating cheese producers, wineries, chefs and breweries include Achadihna Cheese Company, Ewenity Creamery, Golden Valley Farm, Winters Cheese Co., Bucher Winery, Pennyroyal Farm, Woodfour Brewing Company and many more.
