February Wine Events in San Francisco
San Francisco is a key hub for culture. This is made obvious just by walking around Fisherman’s Wharf, sipping coffee at a Valencia St. Café, or grabbing a bite to eat in Chinatown. From highbrow to lowbrow, the City by the Bay has it all in spades. This winter, those looking for a little bit of that posh style should consider attending one of the many wine tastings occurring around the city. From deep and fruity Cabernets and Garnachas, to the crisp, citrusy notes of Chardonnays, your pallet will be awash in sensation and your soul awash in pleasure.
January 31st will be a tremendously memorable day for wine lovers. The Zinfandel Experience may be the most popular and anticipated wine event in San Francisco, and looking at the day’s events it isn’t hard to see why. Hundreds of different wines to sample mingle with various workshops and lectures moderated by Randy Caparoso, the editor for The SOMM Journal, and attendees will have the chance to listen to the top names in California wine making discuss their craft. Those interested in spending a little extra cash can become VIP members with access to super-reserve casks and a premier Winemakers Dinner.
Sips With Soul
This wine tasting is geared to coincide with Black History Month, which makes it unique in that it combines a contemporary social issue with wine tasting. Held at 1300 on Filmore (the name of the restaurant and, conveniently, the address), Sips With Soul celebrates the influence and impact of black winemakers, a group that is growing larger every year, and the primary goal of this tasting is to encourage anyone with a dream to make wine to go ahead and foster that dream. In addition to the inspirational stories and unparalleled wines, Sips With Soul has 1300 on Filmore’s chef and owner, David Lawrence, preparing a fusion of Jamaican and French hors d’oeuvres to be paired and to compliment the tremendous array of wines available. Topping it all off will be the live jazz music that is sure to swing your night into a state of ecstasy.
Gambero Rosso Presents the Best of the Best Italian Wines
This event reaches beyond the confines of the bay into Europe, the birthplace of some of the world’s most renowned and sought-after wines. For those who don’t know, Gambero Rosso is Italy’s most prestigious wine journal, and the event is for those wines that have been awarded the highly prized Tre Biccheri award—the top award given by Gambero Rosso. This event focuses primarily on Italian wines, and those who attend will have a chance to meet and talk with winemakers from many different regions and vineyards while sampling some of the hundreds of wines opened throughout the day.
