Bring on the Wine with the 2019 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on December 9, 2018

With the end of 2018 approaching, now is a good time to start looking towards the new year for inspiring events, activities, and gatherings that can help ensure that the winter doldrums aren’t quite so, well, dull.

A great place to start – and how could it not be? – is with wine. Each year, the Bay Area is infused with numerous wine tastings, wine walks, and gatherings of people who love wine and want to talk about it in greater detail as well as share their tasty vintages with those who attend the events. While most of these events are just casual gatherings of wine lovers and enthusiasts, some of them happen to have more at stake, and the Chronicle Wine Competition is just such an event.

Not just another wine competition, the Chronicle Wine Competition is actually the single largest wine tasting competition in the entire world. While the majority of the competition itself is a closed process (meaning that we, the wine-consuming public, are not allowed to join in), the event culminates in an event where the winners of the competition join all the others who presented to allow the public to taste some of the world’s absolute finest wines.

Capping all records, the number of entries for this year’s worldwide event has reached over 1,500 different wineries, and this staggering number of wine makers submitted a total of over 5,000 different wines for the judges to pick from.

After handing out awards to wines from one 100 separate categories, the doors open and we are allowed to enter and sample the best of the best.

This year, the event will take place on Saturday, February 16th. Running from 1:30 in the afternoon until 5:00, it doesn’t exactly give one the longest amount of time for tasting all that is available; however it is important for one to refrain from consuming too much if the best possible taste is to be gleaned from each sample.

More than just a wine tasting, the publicly accessible part of the Chronicle Wine Competition also features plenty of snacks, cakes, treats, and other goodies perfect for cleansing the palette and whetting the appetite.
