Veterans Business Workshop Series

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on March 7, 2016

As part of a local effort to provide U.S. Military veterans with career help and business advice, the Small Business Development Center will be hosting a 2016 Veterans Business Workshop Series at the Concord America’s Job Center. The workshop sessions will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, starting in March and ending in early April.

The first of these workshops will take place on March 1st and will focus on the first steps to becoming a successful entrepreneur. Presenter Sandy Marcus will introduce attending veterans to the most basic “brass tacks” details of starting a business, including such things as obtaining licenses/permits, developing a business plan, utilizing the free and/or affordable services offered by the Small Business Development Center, and other topics. The workshop aims to identify the main factors of success that can be most useful to first-time business owners.

Other workshop topics to be covered in the 2016 series include articulating a mission statement, developing a quarterly action plan, financial planning (operational cost, product pricing, reading a balance sheet, etc.), target marketing, demographics, executive summaries, pitches and more.

In addition to the general presentation content, Veterans may also take part in a “pitch contest.” The veteran who presents the most convincing business pitch will receive a lease agreement and a 3-month rental of space in Old Town Pittsburg. In order to enter the contest, participants must either attend all business workshops in the series, or be currently enrolled in a business program at a college or university.

Organizers emphasize that the workshops are only available to those individuals who are United States Military veterans, as only veterans are allowed to take part in the pitch contest supported by the Veterans Business Collective. Proof of military service may be required to verify attendees’ veteran status.

California military veterans interested in attending one or more of the workshops can register or find more information at the website of the Veterans Business Collective of Pittsburg, California. The website also includes links to other area veterans’ events. For convenient transportation to the workshops, call Nationwide Limousine Service today at 800-339-8936 to reserve your ride. We love our Vets!
