Leap’s 32nd Annual Sandcastle Contest

This year, Leap’s Sandcastle Contest celebrates its 32nd annual event, and the theme will be Sand Cinema. On October 10th, from 10:30 am until 4:30 pm, architects, designers, school children, and a variety of other Bay Area locals and visitors will come together at Ocean Beach to build and/or to observe the construction of sandcastles and other creatures and structures – mermaids, vintage televisions sets, movie scenes, and/or whatever else the creators’ hearts might desire — from beach sand. Enjoy a variety of designs from minimalist to extravagant.

These aren’t your standard day-at-the-beach sand castles. Prior to the competition days, builders, engineers, and other like-minded professionals meet with students in their classrooms to brainstorm: clay models are prepared, each member of the team receives their competition-day responsibilities, and the excitement builds.

The event supports a good cause: Leap’s educations programs in the art serve thousands of local area school children. In 2014, the organization raised over $260,000 through this single fundraiser!
