Custom Carmaker Plans to Build World’s Longest Limousine
A man who has designed and built some of the most iconic automobiles over the last 25 years is making plans to build the world’s longest limo. Jay “Hollywood Jay” Ohrberg has designed and built the Batmobile, the “Back to the Future” DeLorean, the “Dukes of Hazzard” Dodge Charger General Lee, the Ford Explorer torn open like a tin can by a Tyrannosaurus Rex in “Jurassic Park” and many other famous rides. Since the late 60s, Ohrberg has been the go-to guy for movie and television producers and directors who need custom vehicles.
After designing and building many automotive oddities found in museums and private collections around the world, Ohrberg claims that his favorite creation is a 100-foot limousine that Guinness has recognized as the world’s longest car. It features a hot tub, swimming pool, putting green and helicopter landing pad, and it seats 75 people. Two Cadillac V-8 engines power this custom limo, and it has 26 wheels. Unfortunately, there was damage to the limo a few years back, and it is no longer roadworthy. However, Ohrberg has plans in the works to build an even more impressive custom limousine on a 55-foot Lincoln limousine platform.
Ohrberg’s new project will be 105 feet long, and while he isn’t forthcoming with specific details about the limo’s features and amenities, this builder makes no small plans. When completed, this custom limousine is certain to attract lots of coverage in the media. He plans to complete the new project by March 2011 when the latest edition of the Guinness Book of World Records is published. Ohrberg, a self-described “car guy,” began his career by racing dragsters in Moline, IL. Finding the local competition lacking, he moved to the Los Angeles area and began building dragsters, and a new career was born.
At NLS Limousine, we’re in the San Francisco limo rental business as well as the hospitality industry. However, few people realize that we’re also in the custom limo business. We’ve custom designed and built many of our Bay Area limousines in our workshop. We love cars, and we eagerly anticipate the appearance of Mr. Ohrberg’s latest creation. While we do not share his aspirations to build the world’s longest limo, we do strive to build the world’s most comfortable custom limousines.
