Californian Builds His Own Party Bus That Resembles a Boom Box
A crafty Californian loves music so much that he has created his own party bus that looks like a rolling boom box. Derek Wunder’s audacious party bus, which he calls the “Vroombox,” resembles a classic 80s-style boom box, complete with switches, knobs and two large exterior speakers. This rolling music machine is capable of cranking out 125 decibels of sound, which is about as loud as standing next to the amplifiers at a rock concert.
Wunder, a self-described California party animal, took $20,000 and, with the help of four friends, built his mobile boom box in about seven months. The 36-year-old took a Dodge cargo van, stripped it down to the chassis and built it into a party bus with room for up to 50 music lovers. However, Wunder recently discovered that the party couldn’t last forever, as he has had to put the Vroombox up for auction. He will be a father for the first time later this year and decided that while his party bus is certainly cool, it’s not the most practical transportation for a newborn. Anyone wishing to buy the custom party bus may be in for a surprise, though, as the Vroombox is not certified to be driven on public highways.
However, that has not stopped Wunder from marketing his beloved machine. He says that it is the ultimate party bus for music lovers.
"You can even DJ while you drive (it) if you really think you have to, although I don’t recommend it," he told a magazine.
