Three of San Francisco’s Best Islands

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on May 11, 2015

San Francisco is the perfect gateway to the beach, the ocean, and islands. Most people don’t think of islands when they think of San Francisco, unless they’re thinking of Alcatraz, but there are many beautiful (and less gruesome) islands you can visit easily from the Bay. These are two of the more action packed adventure islands.

Treasure Island

Treasure Island is the ultimate destination for film and photography enthusiasts. The scenery is so incredible that many movies and commercials have been filmed here over the years. It’s also great for wine lovers. Winery SF, located on the island, serves up San Francisco’s best wines day and night. If you happen to be visiting in October, you might catch the Treasure Island Music Festival, one of the city’s best music festivals featuring world-renowned names. From San Francisco, just hop over the Oakland Bay Bridge and you’ll be there.

Angel Island

Angel Island holds some of the most picturesque views in San Francisco. Walk along the island’s perimeter for beautiful views day and night. For active visitors, a hike to the island’s summit is a great way to spend a day. And for history buffs, the island has a great museum telling the immigration stories of those who have passed through the island on their way to America. During the early 20th century, Angel Island was a first stop for many immigrants.

Farallon Islands

A bit more of a journey, the Farallon islands are 27 miles west of San Francisco, in the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary, but worth the trip. You’ll be surrounded by a wide variety of wildlife, including nearly a quarter of a million types of seabirds, like the adorable tufted puffin. Seals and sea lions also use the islands for resting and breeding, so you’re sure to get great photos. The islands are also on the migration path of many whales like the orca, grey whale, and even humpback and blue whales, and also white sharks. From the islands, you can depart on day-long whale watching adventures.
