Sommerfest by the Touristen Verein Die Naturfreunde in San Francisco

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on July 19, 2019

Here we are, nearly halfway through July, and already the summer seems to have been filled with more festivals, concerts, performances, and fun than is possible. If you’re exhausted, we understand. Now might be a great time to take a nap underneath a large tree and wait for fall. Or…you could quickly rush over to the Nature Friends Tourist Club in order to snag your tickets to their July 21st event, Sommerfest!

As is possibly noticeable from the title, this is a German heritage event, so prepare for lots of maibocks and pilsners, knockwurst and bratwurst, and lots and lots of lederhosen. Put on by the Nature Friends Tourist Club (aka “Touristen Verein Die Naturfreunde”), Sommerfest is the middle of a trio of events that are organized for the purpose of retaining some of Germany and Austria’s traditional summer celebrations. The first of these events, Maifest, is past, and Kinderfest, as it’s more of an autumnal event, does not occur until September, but Sommerfest will be here before you know it!

If you haven’t attended one of the NFTC events yet, then this might be your chance to come out the official San Francisco Tourist Club headquarters in Marin County’s beautiful and serine Mill Valley. Here, inside of the gorgeous Mt. Tamalpais Alpine Lodge (which was handmade by members of the SFTC more than 100 years ago and features authentic Bavarian decor and design), you will have unbroken and unparalleled views of Muir Woods National Monument as well as the California Coast Ranges. On the lodge’s patio, you can listen to traditional music performed by club members and drink amazing beer brewed by some of the best brewmasters working within the Bay Area today.

Attendees are definitely encouraged to wear traditional attire to the event, although if you show up in something less in the spirit of the celebration you won’t be turned away – provided, that is, that you have a ticket.

Speaking of tickets, it is important to secure yours as soon as possible as the popularity of the event means that they are apt to sell out quickly. But if you can’t get a pass in time, don’t worry! Kinderfest is right around the corner.
