International Chocolate Festival

Chocolate, perhaps the most notorious of all guilty pleasures (and, let’s be honest, most of us don’t even feel that guilty about it anymore), is already a staple of the Bay Area’s luxury food scene. All throughout the city, one can find fantastic chocolate made by some of the world’s most renowned chocolatiers. But soon, rather than scouring the streets for the best in the chocolate world, you will be able to simply enter the San Mateo Event Center’s Festival Hall. This is because on April 21st and 22nd, Festival Hall will become the epicenter for a chocolate carnival geared to ignite the taste buds of both civilian chocolate lovers like you and me and the cutting edge chocolate chefs coming from around the world to sample some of the Bay Area’s irresistible chocolate niblets.

Billing itself as the International Chocolate Festival, the event promises to be a one-of-a-kind chocolate extravaganza. From the milky warm smell of fresh chocolate permeating the air to the buzz of conversation as chocolate experts debate the highlights of various samples, the International Chocolate Festival will whisk you far from your normal chocolate experience into the indescribably delicious realm of chocolate expertise.

The passion project of numerous chocolatiers and Silicon Valley chocolate lovers, the International Chocolate Festival is the work of a group called ChocolateForce. The mission of ChocolateForce is to create chocolate that rests solidly on the upper end of the quality spectrum. Specializing in the unique, the innovative, and the unexpected, ChocolateForce has put together the International Chocolate Festival in an effort to support the work of artisanal chocolate makers as they mix ever-more unexpected flavors and create increasingly delicious chocolate treats for us to devour.

However, we don’t want you to get the idea that the International Chocolate Festival is exclusively about eating chocolate. While this certainly takes up a significant portion of the festival’s schedule, attendees will also find themselves able to take part in numerous demonstrations, workshops, classes, traditional ceremonies using the cacao plant, and keynote speakers who come to the podium with years of expertise distilled into a few moments of chocolate wisdom for the masses.

The International Chocolate Festival will run from April 21st to April 22nd and will be held at the San Mateo Event Center’s Festival Hall located at 1246 Saratoga Drive, San Mateo, CA. Ticket prices range from $20 to $45, depending on which chocolate package works for you.
