Founded in 1991 as an expansion team, the San Jose Sharks are an NHL team in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. For the first two years, they played at the Cow Palace near San Francisco, and now they skate at the SAP Center where fans adore the game experience. Not only do guests get to watch hockey all-stars such as Joe Pavelski, Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau, Brent Burns, and goalie Antti Niemi, but they also have the pleasure of witnessing one of the most energetic team introductions in the league’s history – skaters enter through a 17-foot shark mouth, often to music by Metallica.

Although this team has yet to win a Stanley Cup or a Conference Division, they have earned six Division Championships, and in 2008/2009 they were awarded a Presidents’ Trophy, which signifies the most points within the entire league during regular season play. Other recent notable events include Kevin Constantine leading the Sharks in a huge turnaround as they made the playoff with 82 points, representing a 58-point increase over the previous season. Moreover, they swept the Vancouver Canucks in 2013 before ultimately falling to the Los Angeles Kings who were the Stanley Cup Champions.
Under their Head Coach Todd McLellan, who is a former Red Wings Assistant Coach, the Sharks have made many roster changes during the past few years. Fans are excited about the energy and skill that these new players are bringing to the team – now is the time to watch hockey! So, let’s put on our Pacific teal, black, white, and orange, and cheer on our skaters with SJ Sharkie, the team’s mascot.
