The Sweetwater is an iconic music venue in Mill Valley, California, close to San Francisco. Formerly called the Sweetwater Saloon, it first opened in 1972, and gained popularity in the mid 1980’s as a destination for the best musical acts in rock and roll, country, and roots music. It is a small tavern and truly one of the most intimate venues in all of California, with just 90 seats.

There is nothing quite like seeing a major musical group in a small, nearly private venue. You get up close and personal, and hear your favorite music in a way you’ve never heard it before. And the artist responds to such small venues in a unique way as well, as if they know how special the show is, and wanting to give you the best performance possible. That’s what makes the Sweetwater Music Hall so special, and why it continues to be one of the favorite places for musicians to play.

In the past, many legendary groups and individuals have graced the stage of the Sweetwater, including The Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir, Bonnie Raitt, John Lee Hooker, the Allman Brothers, Elvis Costello, Sammy Hagar, Aaron Neville, Townes Van Zandt and Van Morrison. Plus, many more famous musicians have simply stopped by the Sweetwater to hang-out and watch their friends.

Sweetwater Café

The Sweetwater also has some “mouthwatering” food available at the Sweetwater Café. It offers breakfast and lunch daily, and dinner beginning at 4pm. They source many of their food locally, and have many creative options on their ever-changing menu.

Other Events

Not only do the best musical acts fill the Sweetwater, they also have many fun events like trivia nights and even concert movies. They sometimes host jazz bands and brunches, as well as live streaming concerts, comedy events and the occasional sporting event.
