This Weekend in San Francisco: The Murray Invitational

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on July 22, 2016

What can we say about Bill Murray that hasn’t been said thousands of times already? We know about his antics (sneaking up to people in Central Park, putting his hands over their eyes, and when they turn around saying, “nobody will ever believe you”), and we know about his movies. We can’t help but love him because we appreciate the way he transcends every expectation we hold for celebrities and maintains his humanness. Bill Murray has become something of an adjective, something we strive to become in the same way we want to become generous or humble. In San Francisco, these feelings have congealed into one marvelous event: The Murray Invitational.

The Murray Invitational is many things, but at its core it is a chance to join together with others in humorous and playful recognition of Bill Murray. It is an art show where you can check out many works from around the world that illuminate and revel in Mr. Murray, a costume party where you are encouraged to wear your finest golfing outfit or dress up like one of Bill Murray’s many characters (Steve Zissou is always a sure bet), and a dance party featuring beats and tunes by DJ BreeJAY, DJ Jasin J, and Tokyo Rocks, among others.

Held at the SF Public Works — located at 161 Erie, in the Mission — on July 23rd, from 7:00 until 2:00 in the morning, the Invitational is 21 and over only, which means that this is a good chance to find a babysitter if you need one and cut loose for an evening in the best Bill Murray way.

Yes, this is absurd; yes, this is outrageous; yes, this is really happening. For only $9, you can participate in the most Murray-est party the world has ever known. The Invitational will even feature a cellphone throwing booth where you can act out some of the more controversial moments from the actor’s storied career. Or maybe you just want to kick back and relax, have a few drinks, and watch others wander around in their abundant admiration for one of the only actors in the film industry who refuses to work with an agent. Regardless, you can be sure that the 2016 Murray Invitational will not soon be forgotten.
