The San Francisco Ballet’s Program 5: Dances at a Gathering & Swimmer

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on March 4, 2016

Few outings are more sophisticated than an evening at the ballet, and if you’re seeking elegance meets spunk, you might consider the San Francisco Ballet’s Program 5, Dances at a Gathering and Swimmer. These internationally renowned performances will be showcased at the San Francisco Ballet venue, 301 Van Ness Avenue, from March 16th through March 22nd. Witness two brilliant and diverse performances. Isn’t variety one of the many reasons that we adore living in the Greater Bay Area?

This is an opportunity not to be missed. The first performance, Dances at a Gathering, showcases the work of composer Frédéric Chopin and choreographer Jerome Robbins. The second half, Swimmer, features the choreography of Yuri Possokhov, and you might be surprised to read the list of composers: Gavin Bryars, Shinji Eshima, Kathleen Brennan, and Tom Waits. Yes, this is the same Tom Waits who wrote “Jersey Girl” as performed by Bruce Springsteen.

The San Francisco Ballet does so much more than the Nutcracker and Swan Lake. (They do, however, offer beautiful renditions of these performances, as well.) This ballet company is known for being beautifully strange. They’re the oldest ballet company in the United States, and they are second to none. In March, begin the evening of the company’s Program 5 with a classic piano ballet and, following a brief intermission, revisit the brilliant sights and sounds of the 1960’s as displayed in the most vibrant of ways.

As the company is under the artistic direction of Helgi Tomasson, you know the performances will be breathtaking. Principal Dancers include Joan Boada, Frances Chung, Mathilde Froustey, Pascal Molat, Yuan Yuan Tan, among others. Soloists include Sasha De Sola, Carlo Di Lanno, and Anthony Vincent, among others. Of course, part of the delight of the evening comes from the sounds of the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra. From strings to brass, woodwinds to percussion, these professional musicians are sure to be on point under the leadership of Music Director Denis de Coteau.
