Football Takes the Field in Oakland and San Francisco

By San Francisco Limousine Specialist on September 1, 2015

The gridiron is returning to the Bay Area. It’s the time of year when massive men dawn shoulder pads and helmets and play what has quickly become America’s game – as opposed to baseball.

The Bay has two football teams, and both have a unique culture and history. The Oakland Raiders dominated football in the 1970s, and the San Francisco 49ers dominated football in the 1980s. Both have lost Super Bowl games in recent years – the 49ers in 2012 and the Raiders 2002. Each organization hopes that a young team and a renewed enthusiasm will push them into the playoffs.

For years, the 49ers played in Candlestick Park, affectionately knows the “The Stick.” The team, however, wanted a more modern stadium and reached a deal to build a stadium on the southern end of the Bay Area in Santa Clara. The team opened Levi’s Stadium in 2014. The new facility has a capacity of 68,500, but a record 83,000 were able to squeeze into the stadium in June for a Grateful Dead concert. Levi’s Stadium features 176 luxury suites and hosted the Pac-12 Championship in December.

Oakland Raiders have had on again-off again relationship with the Bay Area. The team left Oakland in 1982 and played in Los Angeles. It returned to the Oakland in 1995 but is proposing to return to Los Angeles with the potential construction of a new stadium. Initially, the team shared the shared Candlestick with the 49ers, but has exclusively played at the O.Co Coliseum, which it currently shares with Major League Baseball’s A’s.

An NFL football game is an exciting way to spend a Sunday. The Raiders are known for wild fans and extravagant tailgate parties. People often dress in crazy costumes at Raiders’ game. On the other hand, games at Levi’s Stadium are a little bit more subdued but still a great way to spend the day.

The challenge, however, is accessing parking. Both stadiums charge high rates for parking, and people are often forced to park a long ways away from the stadium. The car will pick you up in style and drop you off at the gate. When you are ready, the car will be waiting to take you home or any other destination.
